What this programme is for
C&D waste is the largest waste stream by mass in most Indian cities and the most casually handled. It is also the most recoverable: concrete, brick and aggregate have genuine second lives if they are separated at source rather than mixed on the way to a vacant plot.
The programme covers on-site segregation, processing routes and the recycled product standards that decide whether recovered material can be specified back into construction — which is the point at which C&D recycling becomes a business rather than a cost.
