Overview

What this programme is for

CEWM is the programme AIWMR is built around. It exists because the sector has a specific shortage: people who understand the regulation, the technology and the economics well enough to hold a room — a pollution control board hearing, a client's boardroom, a ward-level review — and be believed.

Over eight weeks the programme moves from the statutory framework governing waste in India, through the treatment and disposal options available for each stream, to the assessment and audit skills that turn knowledge into evidence. It is deliberately broad: graduates leave able to speak credibly about municipal, industrial, biomedical, plastic and electronic waste rather than being narrow in one.

It is designed for people entering the sector and for people already in it who have learned by doing and want the framework underneath that experience. There are no eligibility requirements. The assessment at the end is real, and the certificate is issued on passing it.

What it covers

The Indian environmental regulatory landscape and how consent, authorisation and returns actually work
Waste characterisation — establishing what you are dealing with before choosing a solution
Treatment and disposal options across every major waste stream, and how to choose between them
Environmental impact assessment and management plans
Environmental auditing: planning an audit, evidencing a finding, driving corrective action
Environmental management systems and the discipline of keeping one alive
Recycling, resource recovery and where circular thinking genuinely applies
A capstone: a waste management plan for a real site, presented and defended

The full syllabus is shared on enquiry

Detailed module structures, session plans and assessment criteria are our own design, so we don’t publish them. Get in touch and we’ll send the complete syllabus along with sample case material.

What you’ll be able to do

Read the rules that apply to a given waste stream and say what compliance actually requires
Characterise a waste stream and justify a treatment route on technical and cost grounds
Scope and interpret an Environmental Impact Assessment and its management plan
Plan and conduct an environmental audit, and write findings that stand up to challenge
Build a waste management plan for a facility, campus or urban local body
Hold your own in a regulatory conversation without needing to escalate

Regulations and frameworks covered

The programme works against the rules that actually bind you, not a generic overview.

  • Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016
  • Environmental Impact Assessment Notification, 2006 (as amended)
  • Extended Producer Responsibility frameworks
  • ISO 14001 environmental management systems

Who teaches it

AIWMR Faculty

Practitioners from industry, academia and municipal practice

Our faculty are practitioners. They consult for industry, advise municipalities and run research projects, and they teach from that work rather than from a textbook.
